Nine New England Artists Exhibit Work at Victoria Inn to benefit Annie’s Angels Memorial Fund

victoria innvictorias kitchenAnnouncing a unique art exhibit and sale event to benefit Annie’s Angels Memorial Fund on Friday, February 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  The event will take place at the Victoria Inn B&B & Pavilion, 430 High Street, Hampton, NH.  Appetizers will be provided by Victoria Kitchen Cafe with a cash bar.

Annie’s Angels is dedicated to helping families struggling financially with the challenges of life threatening diseases, illnesses or disabilities.   They focus on families in need by partnering with local businesses to create fundraising events and by relying on individual and corporate contributions to answer the call for financial and material support.  Here is an example of one of the many families that benefitted from the help of Annie’s Angels Memorial Fund.

“Hi, my name is Dakota. I am a four year old little boy with a genetic disability preventing me from walking along like other kids my age. I have many other significant daily skills that are impossible for me to accomplish, but never give up or stop having faith.”

You are invited to meet the nine New England artists on February 12, who will be exhibiting their original artwork.  Enjoy the variety of mediums including sculpture, oil painting, drawing, watercolor, photography, and pottery.  The artists have chosen to donate a portion of sales of their artwork to benefit Annie’s Angels and to help families like Dakota’s.  The artists are Christopher R. Gowell, Norma Torti, Karen Lynch, Sally Grigas, Elaine X. Fuller, Tom Glover, Carol Adams, Peg Duffin, and Johnny Grasso.

I've never done a Rucking before, what's it all about?

SOLDIERS have been doing this for hundreds of years, and it’s an activity so simple you’ll wonder why you’ve never thought of doing it yourself before.

The activity? Rucking, otherwise known as walking with a weighted pack on your back.

Getting its name from “rucksacks,” which is military-speak for “backpack,” rucking is marching or walking while wearing your rucksack (which is always loaded down with gear).

In training camps and in the field, soldiers may ruck up to 40 kilometres (or more) a day, grunting a pack that weighs upwards of 90 kilograms.

But to build the body of a Navy SEAL, you don’t have to (nor should you) carry a pack weighing the equivalent of a grown man. Just add a bit of weight to any old pack you have lying around the house, take a walk, and you’ll open up a whole new world of fitness.

“Rucking is great for the average person,” says Doug Kechijian, doctor of physical therapy at Peak Performance, in New York City, and a former US Special Forces soldier. “It’s simple, and it delivers a lot of health and fitness benefits.”
